Typhus, a human outbreak of which is the completely preventable result of filth, has broken out in Los Angeles. This offers the clearest and most vivid example imaginable of the REGRESSIVE nature of Leftism.
When “Liberal” comes to mean “live like an animal” this result should surprise no one. The Leftist political class makes its living converting dereliction, incompetence and the resulting human misery into political power.
Permitting transients to take over public parks and other public spaces to use as private living space, quickly renders them unwelcoming and unsafe for the ordinary working residents of the community. What had been a public park, a riverside trail or a public transit station becomes an unsafe and filthy encampment of homeless people, most of whom are in various stages of inebriation, dope-sickness or hangover.

On whose authority have the public spaces been “donated” for the exclusive use of these people? Even the right to safe passage through public parks, trails or down city streets adjacent to homeless encampments is undefended by law enforcement. Now, with the outbreak of disease caused by filth, it’s become a serious health hazard for all.
The Leftists defend this as “tolerance,” accusing those who object to it of bigotry. Although cities governed by Leftists are becoming nearly uninhabitable for middle-class working families, that fact does not seem to enlighten a shift in the political tide. So the prospects for restoration any time soon don’t seem bright.
Once Leftism is granted political power, restoration of order and sanity cannot come from the government or the governing class because they are the BENEFICIARIES of the decline. A self-perpetuating decline is made inevitable when those entrusted with authority are unwilling to distinguish between lawful and lawless, sanitation and filth, public spaces and private property, sobriety and inebriation, etc.
This is not “Liberal.” There is nothing liberal about cultivating dereliction, dependency, incompetence and social unrest in order to convert these problems into political capital.
Authentic Liberalism celebrates the power and promise of each human mind; highlighting the uniquely human capacities possessed by all individuals for self-determination and self-mastery. The teachings of authentic liberalism EMPOWER people to lead purpose-driven lives (which offer less opportunity for political pandering.)
Leftists of today deride authentic Liberalism and its message for obvious reasons.
By replacing the virtue of self-mastery with the “teaching” that feelings, emotions, impulses are supremely important, incompetence and dereliction become much more common.
This is not an accident.
A key feature of Leftism is its unwillingness to acknowledge boundaries, discern differences or honor definitions. Of course, the human mind (and by extension human society) is organized on such discernment, so the impact of their constant opposition to even the most reasonable of boundaries (i.e., “we don’t sh*t on the civic-center lawn”) serves to degenerate order, promote chaos, cause filth and ignite conflict.
A key strategy of Leftism is its refusal to enforce laws, preferring instead to engage social-program interventions that serve to fund, facilitate and encourage the precise behaviors that cause social problems, perpetuating them. Each of the problems caused by Leftist policy expands the opportunity for further Leftist pandering, so a cycle of decline is inevitable.
Restoration of sanity, order, rule of law and civilized living will have to come from the people of these cities.
In the meantime, the rest of us had better watch our own legislatures closely, being sure we recognize the flawed thinking and upside-down values that produce 3rd-world squalor wherever they are given political expression.
