I Don’t Get It – Sex Trafficking Version

Once again, I am completely befuddled (probably happens a bit easier these days).  I simply cannot get my head around the idea that sex trafficking, of all ages and genders, is allowed to exist in the US.  Let’s dig.

First, some brutal reality.  Only a few countries, predominately in what is considered ‘Western Culture’, do others seem to value life, women, and children, as highly as we supposedly do in the US.  In many other cultures, women are second-class citizens, if that, and children are even less.  Maybe the adult, male-dominated civilizations they construct are so egocentric to the men that only THEY matter; maybe it is a remainder of a very distant past, where the value assessed is based upon the amount of brute-force labor they contribute to the tribe.  In any case, for whatever reason, gross inequity exists for women and children.  Many children are sent into the many types of mines, KNOWING that the entire environment is unsafe, if not completely hazardous, to humans.  Many women and children are relegated to slave- and sweatshop-labor, working for ridiculously low wages, with even those amounts given to the oldest male in the family.  It’s only been in the last century or so that those conditions have been mostly eliminated in the US.  We had sweatshops and children mining into the 1960s, but we finally decided, as a country, that those conditions were nearly inhumane.  The odd occurrence may still exist, especially in family-run farm labor, but we’ve tried to modernize—heck, we even have an entire government agency (OSHA) to combat abusive and unsafe working conditions.

Second, there is an entire economy of incredibly wealthy people.  People that a $1M is a trifle sum.  This economy rears its public face in places like the Middle East, where oil-rich sultans amass fortunes that dwarf that of entire countries; Silicon Valley, where tech-bubble billionaires are nearly commonplace, and Hollywood, where a few successful movies or TV shows can build a fortune that isolates their creator, performers, and publishers from everyday inconveniences.  Folks, the super-rich live in a world dramatically different from that of the rest of us.  We economize, since we have limited resources.  We have to really want something to spend large amounts on it, be it goods, services, or entertainment.  To the very wealthy, time is WAY more important than money, since they own such large estates and holdings, the money becomes nearly trivial.  $300K for a hand-made, Italian sports car?  Tip change, have two delivered.  All of these super-wealthy people are completely accustomed to getting everything EXACTLY their way, from every human they encounter.  If anyone they hire doesn’t perform exactly as they wish, their replacement will.  And the normal forms of entertainment that we experience?  No way.  When they go to sporting events, concerts, or productions, it is always front-row, balcony, luxury suites, private entrances (don’t need to rub shoulders with the rest of us), with full red-carpet pampering at every turn.  Many of the ultra-rich treat countries and their people as expendable resources—some, so they say, treat entire governments as the servants they have already paid for in full.

The combination of the two points above can lead to some dangerous activity for every day, regular people.  Note that much, if not all, of the next part of this discussion is pure conjecture, not based upon known circumstances, only upon general knowledge of current affairs.  Imagine the issues that may arise if (when) some ultra-rich folks from other cultures decide that children and women are merely sexual toys, to be used and abused at whim?  Expensive to provide?  See:  Epstein’s Island.  Don’t have enough volunteers of the desired targets?  No problem—there are enough helpless runaways, illegal aliens (at the whim of coyotes), and kidnap victims to satisfy any desire.  Hint:  Epstein did not become a billionaire due to savvy investing or building the latest gadget.  He satisfied the needs and desires of some very important, connected, wealthy people—and charged accordingly.  Rumor has it that ALL of the ‘activities’ on Epstein’s Island were videorecorded for extortion use—but that’s just a rumor, right?  The fact that, after all of this time, we have had ZERO prosecutions of any of Epstein’s client list is just a coincidence…

Now we get to the part that I just do not understand:  why is stopping this entire network of terrible activity NOT a primary objective of US law enforcement, from the very top to the beat cop on the street?  I don’t doubt that we have very little ability to enforce morality and humanity on other countries, but what about HERE?  I simply can’t imagine that we cannot generate the political and resource will to simply END this stuff!  Are the people that participate in such a terrible system THAT wealthy that they can convince (or threaten, your choice) all levels of US government to look the other way, and pretend this simply doesn’t exist?  Is this how politicians amass millions in fortunes on $175K/year salaries?  Do the ultra-wealthy have THAT large a stranglehold on our public servants?  Or do they influence in other ways, like credibly threaten the families of those same servants?  Is this yet another facet of allowing the invasion at the US Southern Border, so that more ‘available resources’ are available for sale?  I am not a part of either group, the wealthy or the servants, so I have no idea what the true dynamic is, if there is any at all.

However, just to get the gist of what may be out there, search YouTube for ‘John Paul Rice Child Trafficking’).  This is a stunning revelation from the Producer of ‘The Hunger Games’.  Here is the link, as long as it is available:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQTmXQ6VLLs.  I have no nice, incisive way to close this writing—I am truly THAT stumped.
