I was Right About Big Media Censorship and I wish I was wrong

I had predicted that social media giants Twitter and Facebook would begin enforcing their version of politics through censorship and I was right. I had also given thought that a conservative/libertarian concentration in one alternative channel such as Parler makes it much more vulnerable and easier for the government and the left to target for shut down. I was also right about that. The media machine is now in lock-step and no longer bothering to hide their efforts to turn America into a socialist state complete with state-run propaganda and censorship.

The big news during the first full week of January was the isolated violence that occurred during “mostly peaceful” protests in Washington, DC. In the aftermath of the event, Facebook and Twitter have used it as an excuse to block pro-Trump groups from their media platforms blaming the violence on Trump’s communications. Despite that claim, big media companies like Facebook and Twitter have been pushing a one-sided censorship and pro-left propaganda campaign on their platforms since before the election cycle even began. At the same time, real terrorists such as the Ayatollah of Iran and real racists like Louis Farrakhan have had no such shutdowns of their accounts. Make no mistake, this took a long time in planning and coordination on the part of the media organizations for these changes to suddenly drop.

I personally manage a large Facebook group with close to 49,000 members named Thomas Sowell Foundation which I founded a number of years back. The purpose of the closed group is to serve as a forum for libertarian minded individuals to discuss the threat to freedom posed by the government and economic topics. The group is named in honor of Thomas Sowell, a prominent Africa-American economist who was a Marxist but changed his tune after spending time with the Chicago School of Economics where he met Milton Friedman. Discussions in our group revolved around the idea that no topic is off-limits (within reason) and that even bad or wrong ideas should be discuss so we can tell the difference. The group grew significantly the past four years but two years ago, I began receiving odd ominous messages as the admin of the group from Facebook. The messages basically said that if Facebook finds anything it doesn’t like that our group could be “put in jeopardy” (very ominous indeed). While I try to run a clean group with a clear code of behavior and don’t allow ad hominem attacks on other members or posts promoting violence or racism, I still got those messages.

In an abundance of caution just in case our 48,000 members wake up one day and find our Facebook group shut down, however far-fetched it may seem at the time, I put into place a plan to diversify our communications platforms and started up the www.globallibertymedia.com website thanks to some generous donations from our group members. When alternative social media sites such as MeWe arrived on the scene, I also opened up a Thomas Sowell Foundation on the MW platform. Since the recent censorship put into place by the social media giants, our members are actively switching to MeWe and activity is picking up. As mentioned, I never opened up an account on Parler mostly because I felt we would be more vulnerable to shut down and spying with so many conservatives concentrated in one media channel.

Even though I have taken active steps to anticipate media censorship and government shadow bans, I still find it hard to believe we have actually reached this point. Roughly half of Americans appear to be accepting of socialism and government controlled media and that is a scary thought. Have we reached the point of no return from the path of socialism and Big Brother? Many think we have and I wish this was not true. All we can do at this point is to keep fighting for liberty and freedom and take to every and any communication medium we can to ensure American can once more become great again.

  1. Question here, more a statement really. Why complain and act “aghast” about censorship, and then not move your “Lying dog eared pony solder” butt to safer pastures where the administrators don’t censor you for not coordinating the content of your posts with their ideology first? I just wonder if those “types” of which I was one, would rather belly ache than remonstrate by moving their freedom of expression to MeWe, Parlor and so on.
